What is sciatica?

The term sciatica refers to the sciatic nerve which begins in the spinal cord and travels down the back side of your hip, thigh, and calf into your foot. In order for a person to truly have "sciatica", they must be experiencing symptoms which travel down the leg. Typically the symptoms are reported as dull or sharp, burning or tingling in the affected leg or foot, especially in the buttocks, back of the thigh, calf, or foot/toes.
